A local congressional candidate says his campaign made an honest, rookie mistake when it accepted over $54,000 in political contributions linked to a single donor in Augusta.

Retired businessman Eugene Yu of Evans had to refund $50,000 in contributions that either exceeded campaign finance limits or were prohibited altogether by federal law.  Yu’s fundraising reports show all of the money was given to the U.S. Senate campaign by Augusta businessman Wayne Brown and his company, WayneWorks.

Yu has abandoned his senate bid to run for Georgia’s 12th District U.S. House seat.
