The first day of qualifying ended Monday with two candidates for Augusta Mayor securing spots on the May 20 ballot.  Commissioner Alvin Mason and businesswoman Helen Blocker Adams were the first in what’s expected to be a crowded field of candidates hoping to succeed the term-limited Deke Copenhaver.

Of the five commission seats on the ballot, the District 6 race drew the most candidates.  Four candidates qualified for the race to succeed Commissioner Joe Jackson, who can’t run again.
