Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has requested more than $40 million in federal disaster relief to help the state recover from this month’s devastating ice storm.

Deal says the damage estimate covers 48 counties, including those in the Augusta area.

Deal said the storm brought destructive levels of ice that far exceeded anything the state has seen in decades.  Georgia’s emergency management agency director is working with FEMA to assess any further damage throughout the state.
