A local man was sentenced to 25 years in prison yesterday for shooting an injured soldier’s service dog during a burglary nearly two years ago.

A jury found 33 year old Joshua Patterson guilty earlier this week of burglary and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Before sentencing Patterson, Judge Danny Craig said it was important to point out that it wasn’t his first brush with the law.  Patterson broke into an empty grocery store months before the Gardner Street burglary, causing an estimated $100,000 worth of damage.
