No Charges for former Richmond County Deputy-of-the-Year

Investigators say criminal charges will not be filed against a former Richmond County Deputy-of-the-Year.  Deputy Austin Shepherd was fired last month after investigators determined he’d made multiple purchases of cocaine while on duty and in uniform.

Shepherd admitted buying drugs while employed by the sheriff’s office and was fired in December.  Sheriff’s investigators contacted the FBI, but determined there wasn’t enough evidence to file criminal charges against Shepherd who was a 5-year veteran of the department.
